The Findable
Business.

Plain-English SEO for Google and AI search. A free book for owners and marketers who want to be found by the people already looking for them, without learning a new vocabulary first.

It covers what we actually do on client sites: picking keywords you can win, giving every page one job, fixing the technical problems that matter, earning links honestly, and getting your business cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews.

Why we wrote it

Most SEO advice is written
for other SEOs.

Since 2024, Google answers many questions on the results page itself, and ChatGPT and Perplexity recommend businesses by name. Much of the SEO advice still circulating was written before either of those happened.

We wrote this book for the person who runs the business, or does its marketing alongside five other jobs. It explains how search works now, which parts of SEO still decide who gets found, and which parts you can safely ignore. Every chapter ends with a short list of things to do this week, tied to the matching items in our free SEO checklist.

What's inside

Thirteen chapters,
one plan.

Read it front to back once, then use it as a reference. The last chapter turns everything before it into a 90-day plan.

  1. 01

    How search works now

Google, AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity: what changed and what did not.

  2. 02

Picking keywords you can actually win

Intent, value over volume, and reading the live results before you commit.

  3. 03

    One page, one job

Site structure, cannibalization, and fencing keywords so your pages stop competing.

  4. 04

On-page SEO that reads like a human wrote it

Titles, headings, copy and internal links.

  5. 05

    Technical SEO without the panic

Crawling, indexing, redirects, Core Web Vitals and mobile.

  6. 06

    Content that earns its ranking

Helpfulness, first-hand experience, and when to update or delete old pages.

  7. 07

    Local SEO

Google Business Profile, reviews, and location pages that are not templates.

  8. 08

    Earning links honestly

What a good link is, how to earn one, and what never to buy.

  9. 09

    Getting cited by AI

How ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews pick their sources, and how to be one.

  10. 10

    Structured data

What schema still does in 2026, and the rules that keep it honest.

  11. 11

    Bilingual SEO

English and French sites in Quebec and Canada, done properly.

  12. 12

    Measuring what matters

Search Console, GA4, and a 30-minute monthly review built around leads.

  13. 13

    Your first 90 days

A week-by-week plan, plus the full checklist and a glossary.

FAQ

Questions about
the book.

Is the SEO book really free?+
Yes. The PDF and EPUB editions are free to download from this page with no form and no email address. A paid Kindle edition will also be available on Amazon for readers who want it in their Kindle library; the content is the same.
Is this SEO book good for beginners?+
It was written for beginners and busy generalists. It assumes no technical background, explains every term the first time it appears, and ends with a glossary. People who already work in SEO will find the chapters on AI search and bilingual sites the most useful.
Does the book cover AI search like ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?+
Yes. Chapter 9 covers how AI assistants choose the sources they cite, how to make sure their crawlers can reach your site, how to write answers they can quote, and how to check what ChatGPT and Perplexity currently say about your business.
Is there a French version?+
The book itself is in English for now. The companion SEO checklist is available in both English and French, and chapter 11 is dedicated to running a bilingual English and French website in Quebec and Canada.
Who wrote the book?+
The Davnoot team, a growth agency in Montreal working on SEO, AI search and paid media for businesses in Canada and the United States. The examples come from the work we do on client sites and on our own.
